incest?

That was my first thought when I played Episode 1 of First Kiss. I mean seriously, is this actually happening?

So with this question in mind, from Episode 1 to the last episode. I needed to be sure that this was not one of those incest-angst-filled series. hahaha. Fortunately, it’s not of that genre.

Doing that jump was actually a bummer. I ended up watching the entire ep so I now know what will happen in the end. Yet in spite of this, I think I’ll still give this series a chance. I will still watch it in its entirety.

Sure, I feel like I’m looking at Makino from Hana Yori; and Coach Kawasaki from Buzzer Beat; albeit just a younger versions- but I can handle it. I think the drama has enough emotional staying power for me to stick to it. Hopefully after watching it, I might have more good things to say. (Exclusive of the fact that the OTP’s teeth are really distracting!)

Watching Love Generation this weekend made me notice 2 things. Buzzer Beat and Love Generation have 2 common things. The story revolves around a billboard. Yes, a billboard.

For Buzzer Beat, it was this:

And for Love Generation, this:

Love indeed is a beautiful thing.

Oh, the 2nd thing is just my wishful thinking. I’m kinda hoping that YamaPi will inherit the title of Dorama King. Hehehe

First time with the king

Ok. I am really a late bloomer. Not only did I come to love anime and dorama late in mylife, I am also late in getting to know the king of dorama.

But that changed today.

I just had my fair share of the dorama king himself. My first experience with him is Love Generation. And I’m just realizing that the King was made king because well, there’s just no one like him.

Although it was weird watching a dorama that was made during the late 90’s; it was still kinda worth it. Everything was old but it was old in a dorama way still.

I can’t elaborate that much, but my favorite line would be not between him but with Riko and her dad.

“Sorry for making you worry.

I was never worried.

So you knew?

I knew when you came back that you were just running away.

I’m sorry.

It’s ok. Just as long as you know where to run away to then that’s fine.”

That was dorama in its absolute greatness! But of course, the moments with Riko and Teppei are just made up of dorama magic. Sure, I don’t like the fact that she was clingy and jealous all the time. Plus, he was so-s0. Well, two imperfect people make one true to life relationship.

I now understand why, of all people, he is considered the Dorama King. Kimura has that boyish charm that can easily transform to a manly aura in a matter of seconds. Oh, and his nose! My gosh his nose! Plus his smile!

Consider me a part of his fan club.

I am back to being a dorama fan! And I couldn’t be happier!

I know I wouldn’t be in this place without Buzzer Beat. So let me take this time answer they whys. Why did I love Buzzer Beat?

1. YAMAPI. Enough said.

2. Kamiya Naoki. Who hasn’t felt down or useless and talent-less even? Nobody. Naoki is such a clear example of what it is like to face reality. You dream big dreams, then you enter the real world; you realize you’re not as great as you thought you were. Yeah, everybody feels that.

(Yeah, this is Yamapi!)

3. Shirakawa Riko. A girl has to do what a girl has to do. Even if she knew he had a girlfriend, she still liked him. How many of us can relate to that? I see a lot hands raised!

4. Naoki and Riko.

5. Hatano Shuji. For all the guys who love older women, I salute you!

6. Ebina Mai. For all the women who dare to love younger guys, you are an inspiration! (Pun intended)

7. All the other guys and for this shot alone. Thank you!!!

Indeed… Yamapi makes me strong!

After a very tiring day, I sometimes look to them for relief. Yeah, call me a loser but an otaku is an otaku. Hmmm… I wish I can watch KNT real time. But I can only rely on recaps nowadays. I must say though, that things are getting more interesting. There seems to be movement with Sawako and Kazehaya. But I’m more looking forward to how Chi and Ryuu will pan out.

How cute can cute get?

The Otomen fever has not yet left me. I am still into Asuka. hahaha

Where do I even begin? For starters, this series really made me laugh. Not only was it hilarious, it was witty and hilarious at the same time. I loved the antics and the script- but the parodies made it even so much better. For a series to make fun of other series is just so much fun! It was like Hana Kimi all over again.

And speaking of Hana Kimi, both the lead and the 2nd lead are from that series also. This series could be dubbed ‘Ikemen Paradise 2’. Sure, the cast in HK are way more numerous, but they’re ok. Seeing these 4 ikemen is really one thing that added to my positive reactions towards this drama.

It’s seriously not the best dorama I’ve seen, but it’s good enough to land in my all time fave list. It reminded me once again of the genius that is called story telling. I came to love Asuka and even Ryo. Even the supporting characters found their way to my heart. I found it sad when I started episode 12 because that meant saying a farewell to these characters I’ve come to love.

Hmmm… This makes me want to learn Kendo and go to Japan and wear kimonos.

Yes. I’m having a hard time watching koreanovelas lately. It might be because I am in the ‘dorama’ mode. But still. I tried watching Mary stayed out all night yesterday and it just didn’t work for me. I also started wathching Rain’s Fugitive/Runawa Plan B, but also to no avail.

I am a fan of Jang Geun Seuk and I really, really admire Moon Geun Yoong. Why is it that I am no the least interested or even excited to watch Mary?! I have all the reasons to watch… well not a lot of reasons. I heard and read somewhere that the story was really bad. It was so out of this world and illogical, watching it won’t make sense. Are these bad reviews the reason why I’m not into it?

Rain, on the other hand, is enough reason to make anyone stay glued to the TV. He is ‘My name is Wain’. The story seems interesting enough but there was so much running around. I got too tired the first few minutes into the series. Plus the fact that I don’t like the lead actress. She was pretty in all the right places, but not to me. Also, yeah, yeah! The second lead was from Home Run! And I loved him there… so why did I skip from Episode 4 to Episode 20? Lack of staying power…

I just love japanese dramas! Yeah, they’re usually so out of this world and sometimes so idiotic- but I think that’w what them so AWESOME! I always have a good laugh everytime I see a dorama. In as much as I want to blog about each and everyone of them, i really have no time. So I just want to document what I’ve seen so far.

  • Stand Up
  • Tokyo Dogs
  • Buzzer Beat
  • Hataraki Man
  • Otomen

Hmmm… who will be my next love???

What makes a series successful? Yes, the leads! BUT, if there were no equally amazing second leads- then there wouldn’t be enough staying power. And for Kimi ni Todoke, they are the staying power for me!

Ryu and Chizuru are one odd pairing. Well, odd for my purposes. He likes her, she likes his older brother. She eventually finds out the older brother is getting married, gets angry at Ryu but ends up looking to him for comfort. He, on the other hand, just waits for her to get over his older brother. Oh yeah, he likes her that much!

I’m actually unsure whether I’m rooting for Ayane and Pin. Yeah, the all the clues and hints are there- but Pin is a 10-year old boy trapped in a 30-something person. hahaha. But anyways, seeing these 2 couples really make Kimi ni Todoke a really good series to watch!

I want to watch! But it costs! I maybe a fan, but I’m not that crazy! But! But!  But! – I want to see Hee Chul and Soi won!
